SUSHILA RAIKAR

Sushila Raikar is 45 years old and lives close to Meher Free Dispensary. She has had knee and lower back pain for 6 to 7 years. She said if she did not take the medicine she receives at no charge from the Dispensary, she could not stand up.

Her financial situation is very poor. Sushila married about 30 years ago, but her mother-in-law started hitting her because she could not wash the pots well enough. The whole family then started ignoring her and, 15 days later, her husband threw her out. She returned to her parents who, fortunately, accepted her back into their home.

Now she is living with her Father, Gawaji, and brother, Subhash, (both of whom are MFD patients). Subhash is married with a new baby so Sushila helps look after the baby at home. She also does very hard work in the field and, when she has time, brings the wood for cooking and helps her sister-in-law prepare the family’s food.
Sushila is most grateful for the help she receives from MFD.
